Mort Künstler is considered America's foremost historical artist. The thorough research he applies to his subjects is evident in such works as "The High Water Mark," unveiled at the Gettysburg Battlefield Museum on 2 July, 1988 in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the battle and considered the most accurate and exciting painting ever done of the event. Today, Künstler concentrates his focus exclusively on War Between the States paintings, but there is probably no other artist who has recorded so many events in the history of America, and certainly no one has done so with such extraordinary authenticity and drama.
