9th Annual Southern Family Barbeque

On Friday, May 23rd we will be holding the barbeque get together from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the beautiful Kiroli Park in West Monroe. Again, for financial reasons, we will not be able to provide the meal free of charge, but will have to ask you to pay $7.00 a plate (or $40 for your entire family if you have more than five children). Remember also there is a park charge of $.50 per person to enter. This is a great time of good food, great story telling, good music, and certainly a lot of good ole southern fellowship, so you won't want to miss it. Please send your money for the barbeque with your registration.

We hope you will stay with us all weekend, and we invite y'all to stay over on Sunday May 25th, to worship with the Auburn Avenue Presbyterian congregation. It is always a treat joy to see our friends from around the country and especially to close out our weekend with the worship of God.

The Southern Heritage Society was formed by a small group of citizens in Monroe, Louisiana in 1991 for the purpose of holding an annual conference on the history and culture of the South. It is not our purpose to "whitewash" the sins of our country but honestly to face those sins and seek to learn from our past so that we can live faithfully in the present and future. We wanted our conference to be a place that would preserve the memory of what God has done in our country and help our children understand the truth about their homeland and heritage. So much has been said that is false and distorted that it seemed important to have a conference that strove to present a more accurate picture. It occurred to us that if we didn’t say these things, they might not be heard at all — so we began and have by the blessing of God continued each year.

We have had the privilege of having some of the world’s leading scholars on the South and the history and culture of our country as well as some of our leading theologians present lectures at our conference. Each year has been a great blessing and hundreds from nearly every state in the union have joined us in our annual Memorial Day weekend celebration. Make plans to join us this May!

Aside from the conference and Ball in May, we began an annual Christmas Ball which is held each year on the second Saturday in December. It is a wonderful and beautiful event and we invite you to join us then as well!

If anyone out there has attended these amazing annual event, and has a story to tell, or pictures to share, please send them to the webmaster at apologia@pointsouth.com
